SENSORY AND/OR PHYSICAL NEEDS

This course looks at sensory and/or physical needs including supporting children and young people with vision impairment, hearing impairment, multi-sensory impairment and physical disability. The course provides an overview of the impact these sensory and physical needs might have on children and young people and their learning opportunities. 

The modules in this course are:

  3. Physical disability
  4. Hearing impairment

1. Supporting children with a vision impairment

This module shares best practice when supporting children and young people with a vision impairment in your setting.

2. Understanding multi-sensory impairment

This module shares an introduction to multi-sensory impairment, the barriers MSI might create to learning and best practice to support children in the classroom.

3. Supporting children and young people with physical disability

This module provides insight into types of physical disability, the variety of ways this might present in children and young people, and the strengths and difficulties children with a physical disability might have.

4. Supporting deaf children and young people

This module provides information on the nature of hearing loss, how to identify deafness and how to support deaf children and young people from early years through to adulthood.

  • Understand different types of eye conditions and adjustments to make in your setting and classroom to support CYP with a vision impairment
  • Understand multi-sensory impairment and the barriers to learning this might create for CYP
  • Learn best practice strategies to support children and young people with multi-sensory impairment in your classroom
  • Recognise some common types of physical disability and understand how to make adjustments in your setting and in the classroom to support CYP with a physical disability
