The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) reports that demand for SEND services has risen sharply, with requests for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) growing by more than 40% since 2020. This escalating demand has intensified pressure on local authorities and schools already navigating staffing shortages, funding challenges, and a rising number of tribunal cases due to dissatisfaction with current support.  The continued rollout of the SEND and Alternative Provision Improvement Plan presents a crucial opportunity to strengthen accountability, improve consistency, and raise outcomes. Yet significant questions remain about long-term resourcing, local implementation, and how reforms can be effectively embedded across the education, health, and care sectors. A new paper out - discusses strongly the issues of not understanding neurodivergence in mental health in psychiatry spaces in primary care and in education. This is about neurodivergence not neurodiversity.  Neurodivergence refers to neurodivergent people who have cognitive traits outside the typical ranges of neurotypicality.  We talk about Autism ADHD and Tourette's here and the neurodivergence is likely to have different connective tissue in these neurodivergences (plus in dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia ).  To not recognise the physical bodybrain issues leads to nonattendance, poorer attainment, employment worsening scenarios. I advocate in education on hypermobility (hEDS pGJH)  for children, young people and adults and employment. neurodivergence is the elephant in the room - understand brain body connections

I would like you to invite you submit to a theme and title in a short abstract.Deadline 29th FebruaryDeclaration of interest should included name, email address and title of chapter plus a short bio ofyour experience and qualifications in these areas. You do not have to be a teacher, but teaching assistant or allied professional plus parent/carer . Following on from this there will be another meeting for those who have submitted and we haveaccepted abstracts.
