Introducing myself
Hello, I am Asst Trust SENCO/ School SENCO for a mainstream school in North Norfolk. We have a pupil body of 677 pupils and 23% of them have an identified SEN. We attract a large amount of applications out of county and catchment due to the perceptions of parents that a) we're small therefore better able to address SEN and b) we have a reputation for "doing SEN well" (not my words). I have been in my current role for 4 years.
I have been in education for 13 years and have never felt so challenged in the sector as I do now. The demand for support versus the disconnect between schools and parents/families is exhausting.
I still turn up for work everyday because at the heart of it are a bunch of pupils that I love and whom I see tiny bits of progress from every day and that keeps me going.....

As an oversubscribed mainstream school struggling to cope with the demands of the SEND pupils placed, inappropriately and against parental wishes I agree wholeheartedly with this message. The system is not set up to work for the interests of the pupils, it is designed to suit the commissioners of services. Children, schools, teachers and parents are being let down at every corner.
