About Deborah
Hello, I am a freelance consultant working across special educational needs and children’s residential care, supporting providers, schools, and leaders to deliver high-quality, sustainable provision.
My work includes setting up independent special schools, school improvement, and curriculum design, as well as hands-on support within specialist settings. I work both strategically with proprietors and senior leaders and operationally alongside teams, ensuring plans are realistic, compliant, and effective in practice.
A particular area of interest is project-based learning, supporting schools to bring learning to life and improve pupil engagement. I help schools design curricula that give pupils voice, choice, and ownership, while developing essential skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
I also have significant experience in curriculum development for children and adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities. I have developed a practical, easy-to-use workbook for Teaching Assistants and Care Workers (see website below), designed to support independent living skills.
In addition to consultancy work, I provide online external supervision for senior leaders and Heads in education and care settings. This supervision is highly valued by leaders as a confidential, non-judgemental space outside their organisation, offering clarity, focus, and challenge. It is not clinical, therapeutic or "fluffy", but purposeful, reflective, and supportive of effective leadership.
I am passionate about supporting settings to deliver provision that is both high quality and sustainable, and about helping leaders feel confident, supported, and clear in their roles.
