How does your school record temporary sensory impairments?
I realise that it is the middle of the summer holidays and many members will not be online at present, but as school liaison officer at Deafblind UK, we are looking at whether schools record persistent infections which affect the ability of children to see or hear properly in school. It has been shown through academic research, that persistent temporary infections can have a massive effect on the educational outcomes of children and young people if adaptations are not made to support them whilst affected.
If anyone is able to let us know if and how your school records persistent temporary deafness (e.g. Glue ear infections) or Amblyopia (lazy eye / squints) we would value your views and comments. This will help us to generate usable advice for all schools on ways to support these young people to achieve their academic potential.
Thank you for any comments you have.
