One of the strategies I have found useful is allowing the child/young person to have a "feelings" journal. It allowed them to have a safe place to write down how they were feeling at the start or end of each day. Sometimes they wrote two lines, other times they wrote a page; the aim was to help them identify with their feelings, and use this as a tool to help them to navigate throughout their day.
