Teaching yr 7 maths to deaf learners
I am a one to one LSA with a deaf student in year 7. He isnt doing awfully in maths but it has often been a sticking point when it comes to tests. He already get 50% extra time, separate room if he wishes and a reader (me) wish he finds useful for worded problems. Mum is especially worried as he is in a very academic school.
She says he is not processing the steps / remembering the steps when doing homework and sometimes in tests.
Everything I am reading suggests this is a standard challenge for deaf students and it requires a different way of teaching which is why I would like to speak to others who support deaf children in secondary schools. Thanks
