How Greenfields Academy is Supporting Attendance Through Flexible Online Learning
For pupils who have experienced prolonged periods away from school, returning to education can be a significant challenge. At Greenfields Academy, a specialist SEMH school in Grantham, the team has been exploring flexible approaches to help pupils continue learning while rebuilding their confidence and engagement.
In this video, Headteacher Andy Rush explains how EDClass has been incorporated into the school’s wider attendance strategy. Since working with EDClass, Greenfields Academy has seen a 9% increase in whole-school attendance, alongside notable progress for individual pupils.
Andy shares two anonymised examples, including one pupil whose attendance increased from 43% to 75%, and another whose engagement through EDClass increased from 31% to 71% and has since begun discussions around reintegration into face-to-face learning.
He also discusses the importance of creating bespoke learning programmes, giving pupils choice over their subjects, gradually building confidence and ensuring safeguarding remains a priority when pupils are learning away from the school site.
