The theme for this year’s poetry competition is ‘Inspiring minds: the difference you make to me’ and students are invited to write a poem which reflects on something that they feel has been integral in helping them get to where they are today.

This could be anything that has had a positive impact on their lives, for example the role of their families, teachers, pets and hobbies.

As in previous years, the competition offers free lesson plans to help teachers to promote group conversation around SEND and young people’s experiences. These plans also serve to celebrate the benefits of literature, for all children.

Poems can be submitted in six different categories: primary 5-11 (individual), primary 5-11 (group), secondary 12-19 (individual), secondary 12-19 (group), further education 20-25 (individual) and further education 20-25 (group).
