Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from the 15th – 21st May 2023.
The numbers of young people with a mental health disorder in our schools is steadily rising. More and more schools are identifying mental health needs in children as young as 4 – many believe this is as a result of the Global Pandemic and the insecurity of these children in a school situation.
There are currently around 20% of the school population who are persistently absent( missed 10% or more of their possible sessions) and many schools are stating that this is due to mental health difficulties.
Schools have growing numbers of pupils who have Emotionally Based School Avoidance – a relatively new term replacing “school refusal”.
However, there are still very limited support services from external agencies to support schools in meeting the needs of these children and young people.
In this updated list of Mental Health Resources I have included links for Mental Health Awareness Week, Transition to Secondary School and Emotionally Based School Avoidance.
The resources list can be found here.
